63rd Infantry

63rd Infantry, First State Color. Recruited in August 1861, the 63rd was not fully organized until late September. The regiment was composed of men from Allegheny, Beaver, Clarion, Armstrong, and Venango counties. On January 5, 1862 the first state color was presented to Colonel Alexander Hays. The flag was retired from service in May of 1864 when a replacement flag was received. The regiment's term of service expired on August 1, 1864, but it was retained at the front until September 9 when the majority of the regiment was sent home for muster out. Some men re-enlisted and served with the 105th PA.

The regiment was composed of men from Allegheny, Beaver, Clarion, Armstrong, and Venango counties. The second state color was received in May of 1864. The regiment's term of service expired on August 1, 1864, but it was retained at the front until September 9 when the majority of the regiment was sent home for muster out. However, some men re-enlisted and served with the 105th PA. They continued to carry the second color of the 63rd regiment which was captured on October 27, 1864.
